Stories & Personas

Some villagers have more to say than small talk. When you talk to them, their story shows as an option in the dialogue screen. Stories give quests, remember your choices, and change how the villager feels about you.

  • Talking. Pick the story’s option in the dialogue screen. Choose your replies. If you leave in the middle, the villager picks up where you left off.
  • Quests. A story can give you a quest. It shows in the Quest Ledger with its goals and your progress. Use Track to keep it on screen.
  • Something to say. When a villager has something for you, such as a finished quest, a mark shows over their head. Some villagers call you over when you come near.
  • Overheard. Walk past villagers and you can overhear them talk to each other in chat.

Stories need Townstead’s dialogue screen. See Conversations & Dialogue.

A Persona is a special villager with a story of their own. They are not born in your village. They arrive when your village is ready for them, and walk in from the road to meet you.

  • Their own person. Each Persona has a name, a job and a past. They know who you are, and talk about what they know about you.
  • Gifts. Each Persona loves some gifts and dislikes others. They give back a gift that they dislike.
  • How they treat you. What you do changes how a Persona feels about you: their trust, their affection, their resentment. Their manner changes with these feelings. A Persona you treat well grows warm. A Persona you treat badly grows stern.
  • Friends of friends. A Persona can introduce you to another Persona, who arrives a few days later.
  • Downed, not dead. By default, a Persona who would die is downed instead. They lie still and get up later. To help them up sooner, use the Persona as you do to talk to them.
  • Leaving. You can ask a Persona to leave your town, from the More page of their interaction screen. They do not come back to your town.

Each player has their own story with each Persona. What you say to them does not change another player’s story.
